To Whom It May Concern,

On March 26, 2024, a massive cargo ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, causing it to collapse. The disaster claimed six lives and reconstruction will be costly.

As reported by The Lever, the company that chartered the ship involved in the crash, Maersk, was recently sanctioned by regulators within the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for telling employees that they should not first report safety concerns to government agencies. Regulatorst stated that this was illegal, but no fines were levied.

We’ve now seen how dangerous these ships can be. Regulations must be strongly enforced to ensure that we are not left at the mercy of massive corporations that are more concerned with profits than safety.

We, the undersigned, are calling on you to strengthen regulations as much as possible, and to fully enforce fines and penalties when rules are broken.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
